Vineyards

Our approach to winemaking begins in the vineyard. Our pursuit remains to craft, quite simply, the greatest expression of our terroir. Great sites possess a balance that must be respected, and which express a sense of a place. Our sites have great soils, terrain, orientation and are farmed by highly talented people dedicated to quality, sustainable, and organic viticultural practices. It is through these critical elements that we are able to achieve our winemaking objectives.

MOWE Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Our estate vineyard is located on the east side of the Silverado Trail, just north of the town of St. Helena in California's Napa Valley. Planted at the base of Glass Mountain by David Abreu in 1990, it consists entirely of Spottswoode clone Cabernet Sauvignon grafted onto 5C rootstock. Farmed organically, the vines are tightly spaced on sloping land with rocky, clay-loam soil uniquely studded with obsidian rock. The vineyard is entirely hand farmed. Deficit irrigation techniques are employed to ensure small berry size and maximum flavor potential is reached.

MOWE Sauvignon Blanc

Our Sauvignon Blanc vineyard, located in the Coombsville AVA, is farmed without irrigation, producing a small but very intense crop. Coombsville's proximity to the San Pablo Bay results in early morning fog that lingers until later in the day, and Bay breezes help maintain a significantly cooler temperature than most other AVAs. These cooling influences preserve acidity and freshness while allowing for slow and even ripening. Following organic practices and utilizing two clones, the resulting fruit is pure, bright, and intense with an incredibly concentrated mineral quality.
